Rebuilding Hope: The Missouri Valley Community Rises Above Adversity

In the heart of Missouri Valley, a passionate soccer community has thrived for over 30 years, thanks to the dedication of the local volunteers and support of a nationally recognized nonprofit organization. But today, we find ourselves facing a situation we never could have anticipated – a situation that threatens the very existence of our beloved Missouri Valley Soccer Group.

A HISTORY OF SUCCESS

For three decades, the Missouri Valley Soccer Region has been a pillar in our community. Generations of young players have learned the values of teamwork, discipline, and determination on the fields. Volunteers have poured their hearts and souls into nurturing this program, making it a vital part of the lives of countless families.

THE DISPUTE AND RESTRUCTURING

However, every story has its challenges. With the introduction of new leadership in the national nonprofit. Disputes began to arise over the operations of several area soccer groups. In an attempt for resolution, the national nonprofit organization decided to restructure the three local regions into one. New board members were sought to operate this redesigned system, as the national nonprofit faced difficulties in finding local volunteers.

THE BREAKING POINT

As tensions escalated, the Missouri Valley Soccer program hung in the balance. A 30-year-old field lease between the national soccer organization and the City of Missouri Valley can under scrutiny due to its age and questions if the terms of the lease were being adequately followed. The situation reached a critical point during multiple Missouri Valley City Council meetings, as community members began to question if the national soccer organization held the communities’ best interests at heart.

Ultimately, the Missouri Valley City Council decided by unanimous vote to terminate the current soccer field lease. This decision was not made lightly and was largely influenced by what the council perceived as a disregard toward the community’s concerns and threats of lawsuits directed towards the Council from the National organization.

A COMMUNITY IN LIMBO

What followed was a heart-wrenching turn of events. The national nonprofit organizations removed all the community equipment from the Missouri Valley Soccer Fields, leaving the fields empty. Additionally, they confiscated all the community bank funds, estimated at $30,000, that has been painstakingly obtained by the Missouri Valley Soccer Region, parents, and volunteers of the years.

Today the community of Missouri Valley is left with uncertainty. Upwards of 225 players are without a recreational soccer program, further uncertainty as to what organization will be able to step forward to rebuild the Missouri Valley Soccer Group.
